While waiting on getting my stitching back from the framer, I thought I would show you guys this pretty thing.
It's a free pattern from the same designer that did the 'Mini Rings of Change' that I crocheted earlier this year.
His shop is HERE, for those interested.
I did this in a few days, on breaks at work, while I was finishing up Gracie at home. It was done in the last days of November.
It's really pretty - I used Coral, Lt Coral, and Brick Red. I have no idea what I will do with it. I will say it was a lot easier and quicker than Mini Rings. Smaller, though.
I want to make the big version now :D But I will be good and get back to my large projects of Rings of Change first.
Probably.
PS - I showed this to my brother, and he said it was very pretty, but made him hungry, because I did it in 'bacon' colors. Men... XD

Crafting ADD
I has it.
A new cross stitch project (my own pattern!), my second finished coloring poster, 'Cherry Basket', my first book-folding project, and my solid-color Rings of Change is now almost as big as the finished Mini-Rings.
I haven't touched the striped Rings of Change again (yet), but I have worked on Unspoken and Lovers. I'll show them soon!
I managed to get another bird at my feeder; I wasn't at the right angle to get a good shot but here's a handsome Blue Jay investigating the pickings!
These birds are so loud! And they'll eat the fruit crop right off your trees, but they are very nicely dressed, I always think! Oh, and this morning when I left for work, I finally saw a tiny brown hummingbird at my liquid feeder! I KNEW someone was drinking that! I wish I had my camera in my hand but alas, I did not!

'Made of Change' Patterns
Heya!
Quick heads up - I was drifting around Ravelry for a few minutes before I get back to my 'W' block and saw that there's a special offer for two of the 'Made of Change' afghans.
If you add these two to your cart:
'Spirals of Change'
and 'Panes of Change'
Then 'Panes of Change' is free when you purchase them! It only works if you use the ADD TO CART function!!!
I was planning to get these eventually, so I grabbed them while I could. The offer is only good through May 4th. The 'Made of Change' store is HERE. I'm not affiliated in any way; I'm just a fan :D

An Afghan Update
I found my red floss - it was in my purse, where it should not be - I have a small separate bag that I carry this project in. I'm working away at the S block; I have to go out for a while but I'll be back today with it finished :D
I thought I would show the afghan projects I have going - I am almost as bad with them as I am with cross stitch, when it comes to having too many on the go! And I haven't updated them in a while.
I have the first Rings of Change to here:
Not tired of Turqua just yet :D
The second one is through the second color pattern:
Now for the Moogly Afghan CAL - there have been two squares every month but I was stuck on the very first one. All those horrible quadruple-treble crochets, and of course, as soon as I finally got the hang of making them neatly, I only had two left to do. I had no intention at all of pulling any out! After I got past those, it was easy-peasy. And now I can move on to the other squares :D
The Moogly square #1:
It's called Tamara's Kismet Square and the pattern stitch is Jacob's Ladder. Only change I made was the last two rows - my square needed to be 12 inches and it was coming out just a little too small so I changed them from single crochet rows to half-double crochet rows. Worked beautifully! It looks straight until I take the picture - that's crochet for you! I haven't blocked it yet.
Here's the start of block #2. It's much easier! Not a quadruple-treble in sight :D But I still have to pull one row out. Those top V's are supposed to be in a different place XD

I am also working on a toddler jacket for my nephew and a set of placemats for my Mum but I haven't taken pictures of those just yet.
No progress on the teal-striped afghan, and I'm still on a yarn hunt for the Lily Pond afghan!

I Have No Self Control
I found another CAL, you guys!
One I have to do! I fell in love with the afghan as soon as I saw it!
It's called Lily Pond:
Here's the link - this CAL just started!
I won't be starting it just yet - I have to get a payday and hunt down yarn in these colors:

The original yarn is sold out until May, plus it's in the UK, plus I'm pretty sure it's wool and I'm severely allergic to wool. So I'll be playing treasure hunt :D
I was just so excited about this lovely creation that I had to share!

On Sunday, I Went Crazy
Before I get started on the insanity, here's a wee bit of progress - I got another color done on 'Great Light'.
Before:
After:
I have already started the next color. There are either nine or ten to go.
On Sunday, I took the invitation, from my Mum, to go shopping at Wal-Mart. This is, as I've said before, an hour-long trip (each way, so two hours driving, total) and we don't go that often because of that. We wait until the trip is worth it.
Well, we both needed some groceries that the little Mom-and-Pop stores around here didn't have, and I wanted yarn and she wanted herbs and vitamins, so away we went.
There's also a discount store called 'Roses' near there, and we stopped in because they usually have well-made but cheap shoes. I got a cute little red pair, and a couple t-shirts, then found something they never had there before.
A bin of yarn.
Red Heart yarn, not the regular kind but the odd kind. These came home with me, with some vague ideas about cowls:
At Wal-Mart, I dithered in the yarn aisle for a while - they were sold out of half the Red Heart, which was annoying, as I needed more of the 'Latte' color for the 'Tree of Love' afghan I want to start and they didn't have any. :C Just my luck! But I wanted to try and pick the color or colors for my big version of Rings of Change.
Mum asked what was taking so long, so I told her I still hadn't decided if I wanted to do it a solid color or if I wanted to do one in ocean-colors. She looked at my tentative selections and said something I truly wasn't expecting from my no-nonsense, frugal mother.
What she said resulted in us going to yet another store - Magic Mart (is that a chain anywhere away from here? There are about four of them that I know of but not sure about elsewhere?) They have a dinky selection of Red Heart there, and I was able to get a little more yarn. Enough for this:
That's about half what I need for my striped Rings of Change - Aran, Buff, Macaw and Turqua, bought at Wal-Mart, and two skeins of Blue at Magic Mart 'cause it was sold out at Wal-Mart.
And then this:
Four more skeins of Turqua, but not for my striped version because... my MUM thinks I should do both! A solid and a striped one! And it was very, very easy to talk me into it, haha! As in, she didn't have to talk at all, I said 'okay!' and tossed the yarn into the buggy.
So then I dithered over which to start first, and the advice I got was 'Just do them both at the same time'.
O_o
Right, then!
One solid color Rings of Change, started (up to row 8)
And one striped Rings of Change, also to row 8, and through the first color sequence:
I'm going to be sick and tired of Turqua in about a week, I bet.
After talking about nothing but afghans for half the trip home, I had to pull out a stashed project and make a decision. The reason I was waffling between a solid Rings and a striped one is because I've wanted to do a big, solid, bright colored afghan for my living room for a while now. This is where my trip to Insanity went completely sideways into Cloud-Cuckoo-Land.
With this:
'This' is a lovely afghan I wanted to make all in one color - it is not Turqua but is the old Red Heart Lt Teal. When I started it, I calculated the yardage wrong. The issue is that I would need 16 more ounces than what I have - and that color is discontinued. Despite haunting eBay. etsy and various crochet message boards for over a year, I haven't managed to get what I need. So a few months ago I ordered some Aruba Sea, which is a close but not quite match and thought I would do it in stripes - one skein of Lt Teal, then Aruba Sea, then Lt Teal again and so on until it was done.
This is Aruba Sea, the Lt Teal, and Turqua in a row, so you can see the difference.
Aruba Sea almost matches. So very close. And yet if I did the last two or three skeins with it, the change would have been glaringly obvious.
But then, I dithered. I do that a lot. Over if I should keep going in the Lt Teal and just hope for the best - that I would find some more of my yarn before I needed it, or go ahead with the stripes. I just wanted that solid color afghan so much and yet I wasn't willing to order more Aruba Sea and let all that Lt Teal wait for another, smaller afghan. (Because I'm nuts, I guess. But the Aruba Sea didn't appeal to me the same way the Lt Teal did; not for a solid afghan.)
After Sunday, and the fact that there will be a solid-color afghan in my living room, I decided the stripes are good enough and probably will be very pretty. But that adds another big blue afghan to my list. It will look like this when done:
Only, you know, teal-blue.
If that isn't enough for you, I'm also trying to finish this:
That's the January square for the Moogly afghan, and once I get this done, may I never do another quadruple treble in all my life! Also I dislike the Jacob's Ladder. The sideways rows, at least. Oh, how hard it was to make that first one look neat! I cheated with the instructions 'cause I hated the way it came out at first. I'd be further along if I hadn't had to pull the row I'm on out twice - after getting halfway through the second quadruple-treble row that comes after it. I just can't seem to count this row properly!
If you notice, it's in blues. I decided to do it as a stash-buster, but all in colors you would find in the ocean; blues and blue-greens and blue-purples and some teal and dark teal... and... and some bits of flotsam and jetsam here and there. The squares will be 12 inches each, and I'm going to add other squares to make a good-sized throw.
So that's four big blue afghans. In progress.
My favorite color, by the way, is green. I've definitely gone round the bend... because I don't feel the slightest bit dismayed by all this. Every time I look at the piles of blue yarn in my house, I get a little giddy - with utter delight. I've lost it!
PS: All of these afghans will be done with the same size hook, so I also bought the first of these:
A nice ergonomic hook so maybe my arm won't fall off!

Mini Rings of Change
The CAL goal for this week was rounds 38 - 40 and they pretty much hopped right off my hook!
Black, Hot Red, and then another row of GlowWorm, which loks very washed out in the picture.
Then, we were given permission by the CAL host to finish if we wanted because there were only two more rounds - so I thought why not? And happily stitched round 41.
Then I started round 42 and my brain went sideways, because it wasn't working, for the first time a row wasn't working!
Turns out there was an error in the pattern, corrected in January but I printed mine in December. I started to frog it out, back to the beginning of round 40, but then I thought, you know - I didn't like the way round 42 looked on this, when I was trying to figure out the issue I looked at bunches of Ravelry pics, and less than 1/3 of them did round 42 (prolly 'cause of the error) and I like this the way it is. I wanted to finish up with Candy Pink all along.
So - it's done. I love it and it's done!
Round 41, in bright Candy Pink, and a mini-afghan that's about 4 feet across. I have no idea what to do with it but I love it!
I love it so much I bought the full size version:
Only with blues, cream, and sand so it will look good in my ocean-themed living room. (The green one is stitched by babyme29, on Ravelry)
I almost want to stitch it twice! But only almost.
There's going to be a new CAL with this pattern:

I'm leaning toward earth tones and neutrals for this one. And already tempted to buy the big version, too! :D
Off to weave in the last of my ends on the Mini-Rings! Only a few left, yay!

Mini-Rings - Staying Caught Up :D
This week the Mini-Rings CAL goal was rounds 34-37.
More orange, then two rows of white. I was iffy about using white for these bigger rounds, but once it was done, I really liked it!
There's not much left; we'll all be happy dancing over this one soon! I've decided to buy the big version, but I'm torn over whether to crochet it all one color or to make one in shades of blue - I saw a gorgeous one in shades of green, with pink and white to accent, and it was so very beautiful that I just stared at the picture! But green won't match the room I want it for - I need blue afghans for my living room!
I guess I could do it twice? XD
PS - I've done a lot of updating on my pages recently, added back a lot of WIP pics and put a lot of crocheted stuff up. Still have more crocheting to add - I have lots of hats to take pics of :D
PPS - Is tomorrow YOTA? I'm thinking tomorrow is YOTA! I must check!

Thrifty Thursday - Afghan Edition #1
I used to do Thrifty Thursdays once upon a time; thought I might try them again!
One thing I cannot resist in a thrift shop is a handmade afghan in good condition - probably because I know how much work goes into them!!! I do have a few criteria before I buy:
1. No obvious stains (duh).
2. No aged-fuzzy yarn, matted yarn or lots of pills.
3. No loose or broken stitches.
I have one little thrift store nearby that gets new loads of blankets every month, and usually I can find a pretty afghan in good condition in it, for a ridiculous price! The only issue is they are rolled up with masking tape (!) around them so I can't check them completely. I have to take a chance, but they are cheap enough to do so! Here are two of my recent finds:
This is an older afghan, I know - I showed it to my grandmother and she said she recognized the variegated yarn and is pretty sure they haven't made it since the eighties. It has no stains at all and the yarn is only the tiniest bit fuzzy, mostly because I washed it.
Fresh out of the bath:
And spread out for a good look on a king-sized bed:
I don't care much for the short, stumpy fringe but the afghan is nice. More of a throw in size. My mother has claimed this one for her African-themed room, where it will fit in beautifully.
Cost - $2.00
This one is currently my best buy at a thrift shop; it is made with a smooth-textured sport weight yarn with a delicious rich sheen and subtle sparkles and is very heavy! I would love to know what yarn this is.
It looked almost brand-new but had one tiny stain on it that I found later:
It doesn't show at all from the other side:
I'm going to try to wash it out with a mild spot-cleaner.
Cost - $2.50
I have more afghans - including a big knitted one - that I will show some other day. I was just so pleased with these two I couldn't resist!

Catching Up
I have been working on catching up on the Mini Rings of Change CAL, hosted HERE
Finally got caught up, at least to this week!
Week 7 - Black and Bright Yellow
Week 8 - one round, in Blue (the other blue in the afghan is Delft Blue, this one is just bluntly 'Blue')
Week 9 - two rounds of Raspberry, black again, and orange. There is a lot more black in this afghan than I thought I saw in the original picture - I'm changing all the other colors but whenever the original says black, I'm stitching black.
So, we are on Week 10 so I'm caught up until Friday! I might make this week's rounds by then. Also have a few (lot) more ends to weave in!
I am getting really tempted by some other afghans that I've seen, especially the full size patterns that the designer of Mini-Rings has. I also have a tiny amigurumi to stitch this week for a birthday gift, so there will be lots of crochet on the blog in the next few days.

Catching Up
Mini Rings, Week 6.
We're on Week 8 now. *SIGH* I have still have more catching up to do! :D :D :D
The red I added is a nice rich, deep red, not the orange-red of the picture. My camera refuses to properly capture red. I have an utter awesome finished afghan that I can't take a picture of to save my life!

Mini-Rings Afghan Update
Finished with my 'assignment' for the week - rounds 15-19. White, black, and then three purple.
The blog with the CAL is HERE. So much fun!!!
Please pardon the loose threads - I've been lazy and have yet to weave in one single end. I might make that part of this week's work on this pretty thing... I'm thinking it needs some red, soon. Maybe next, maybe not.

CAL Update
Thanks for the comment on my cherub! Seems more people think he looks sleepy than bored - I can see that! :D
Here's my Mini-Rings CAL update!
Rows 11-14 were the assignment - hot pink again, spring green for two rows, and then white.
I still don't have the first square for the Moogly afghan done - I can only do so many quadruple triple crochets before I toss it aside. I can't keep them neat.

Apparently, I forget EVERYTHING...
Here's my update for the Mini Rings of Change CAL that should have been posted yesterday:
It's IHSW, and I'm working on Lovers, so I'll post an update Monday.
Unless, of course, I forget...

Oops!
Here's my update for the Mini-Rings CAL except I made a mistake!
I read the instructions for this week, then had about three days before I was able to pick it up and work on it - I was supposed to stitch rounds 6 & 7, but my brain thought I was supposed to do 6-9.
So now I'm ahead.
THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED TO ME BEFORE!!! Usually, I am WAAAAY behind!

The yellow is a pretty lemon yellow - the brightness of the green and orange make it look dull.
Tomorrow is the first Turtle Trot post, and I've barely done anything! Off to cross stitch!

New Things
Here is my Jan 1st start of 'Unspoken' - I got a little done, mostly white, winter white, pale grey, and medium pale grey. AKA - invisible!
There are about three rows of forty stitches that I can't even see and I know they are there!
This is the first 5 rounds of the Mini-Ring afghan. I decided to do it all in brights and jewels, with the odd row of black to set it off. The green is Red Heart in 'Glow-Worm' and the flash made it even more neon than it actually is!
I had a finish yesterday, too, but I plan to show it off tomorrow. I had to work all day and half the evening today and I need better light!

Friday Goals!
Well, my goals for last week didn't go too badly:
1. Get the grey afghan to 20 repeats - I think I hit 18 or 19. I didn't bother taking a pic. It looks the same, just longer.
2. Get a stripe sequence done on the rainbow afghan - done! Here's a pic:
3. Get two color repeats done on the ripple afghan - I didn't plan this one well. The actual color repeats are huge! So now my goal to get a cream-colored stripe done - there are five cream-colored stripes in the whole afghan. Got the first one! Here's a pic:
4. Get another light red stripe done on the red afghan - done! Pic again:
5. Start the last afghan - nope. Didn't do it.
6. Take a picture of the Sprite so I can post about it - Here ya go! Severus Snape, made for me by Missy at the DorkStitch blog. She sent me the rough draft so I wouldn't have to wait :D

7. Get the wallpaper done in the throne room on Princess Palace - nope. A little progress, but not that far. I ended up making a new Q-snap cover, though. I'll post about that on Monday, hopefully with the wallpaper done!
8. Work on Nostlagy for IHSW - did that! Pics are in a previous post.
So here is next week - by next Friday I want to:
1. Get as close to 25 repeats on the grey afghan as I can
2. Get another row of cream done on the ripple afghan
3. Get another pattern repeat done on the rainbow afghan
4. Get another light red stripe done on the red afghan
5. Start the kitten afghan
6. Get the wallpaper done on the Princess Palace
Onward I go!
